Women's Mental Health Working Group

About us

The Women’s Mental Health (WMH) Working Group was founded in June 2025 by Şiirnaz Kükürt (Türkiye) and Beren Özel (Türkiye) to advance EFPT’s commitment to equality and inclusion in psychiatry. The WG provides a collaborative platform for trainees who are passionate about integrating gender-sensitive perspectives into psychiatric education, research, and clinical practice. Our mission is to promote education, advocacy, research, and mutual support in the field of women’s mental health across Europe; empowering both women patients and women professionals in psychiatry.

Chair: Şiirnaz Kükürt (Türkiye)

Co-chairs: Marta Gostiljac (Serbia), Beyza Akan (Türkiye) and Ioana Tudor (Romania)

Our Mission & Vision

  • Integrate gender-informed and women-centred perspectives into psychiatry training and clinical practice.
  • Promote advocacy and leadership opportunities for women in psychiatry.
  • Foster collaborative research and education on women’s mental health topics.
  • Build a supportive trainee community for shared learning and professional growth.

Research Projects

Two trainee-led international research projects were launched at the group’s foundation:

1. Exploring the Emotional Resonance of the WMH WG

A short, anonymous survey designed to explore why the formation of this group sparked such a strong and spontaneous response among trainees — attracting over 85 members before its first official meeting. This study seeks to understand the unspoken gender-related needs and emotions it has brought to light, and the symbolic and structural gaps the group begins to fill within psychiatric training culture.

2. Mapping Education on Women’s Mental Health in Europe

A cross-national study evaluating how and to what extent women’s mental health is covered in psychiatry training programmes across Europe. The project aims to identify educational gaps, assess trainees’ preparedness, and inform future advocacy and curriculum development within EFPT and beyond.

Future Projects

  • Webinars
    • Female ADHD
    • Antipsychotic use in female patients
  • Mentorship Programme in collaboration with the EPA Women’s Mental Health Section, designed to empower women in psychiatry.

Get Involved

All psychiatry trainees across Europe are welcome to join the Women’s Mental Health WG — no prior experience required, only interest and motivation to contribute.
