Trainee Committee of Psychiatric Association of Turkey

Trainee Committee of Psychiatric Association of Turkey (TCPAT) formerly functioned as a working unit within Psychiatric Association of Turkey (PAT), is established as a distinct commission in 2013. Since then, more than 150 trainees from various institutions has joined TCPAT to collaborate, exchange experiences to pursue for harmonization and get ahead in further improvement collectively. Always continue to support each other.


Aims & Scope

To increase and facilitate communication and solidarity amongst psychiatric trainees particularly in the subject of residency education and vocational trainee rights, to determine the requirements and discuss about most commonly encountered problems throughout residency and propose solution statements, to unite in the direction of scientific aims and actively participate in conducting scientific studies, to develop and strengthen interactions with international associations.

Working Groups
Meeting online on a monthly basis, producing relevant work in the specified area, organising panels in congresses and also providing a connection with elemental PAT working units by means of junior members; working groups within TCPAT consists of seven sections as below:

3) Peer and Mentor Supervision
4) Education Standardization and Trainee Rights
5) Planning and Structuring Meetings
6) Psychodrama
7) Psychotherapies

National Psychiatric Trainee Meeting
Initially held in 2016, every year on a weekend in March, an assembly takes place in one of the non-metropolis cities of Turkey, in order to broaden the catchment area to make TCPAT more accessible for trainees nationwide. Here a full program including presentations, small group discussions, roleplays, intervision meetings, talks from senior professors and more are completely being organized by trainees themselves.

A Guidebook for Psychiatric Trainees
A product of a year-long active communication among the members of TCPAT, first edition of an introductory guidebook on psychiatric residency was published in May 2016. This guidebook is intended especially to help out the newcomers, the junior trainees in psychiatry, to provide clues regarding the essential skills: preparing a presentation, preparing a poster, vocational rights, joining professional societies and more.

25th EFPT Forum in Istanbul
Last, but not the least, TCPAT is honoured to be the future host of 25th European Forum of Psychiatric Trainees in Istanbul this year between 30 June – 4 July. Under the chairmanship of Ekin Sonmez, EFPT president, the local organising committee is looking forward to the date to arrive and by the way carry on the necessary preparations aiming to provide the best experience of Istanbul.
