Aim

Since 2016, we aim to advocate for culture sensitive psychiatry and improve mental health of forcibly displaced people. Our main mission is to improve psychiatric training and practice in transcultural psychiatry and trauma-related topics in Europe, while advocating for equity and diversity for service users and trainees.

Projects

Task Force: Refugee Resources

Coping with the incomparable trauma of war requires specific attention, approaches and resources. Our workgroup has been gathering educational material and resources to inform trainees and service users about mental healthcare during and after war. We are currently undertaking a comprehensive update of this resource library to bring the materials up to date, and aim to integrate educational tools for European Trainees.

Research

We aim to conduct research about cultural psychiatry and education in cultural psychiatry among trainees. We are currently working on 2 projects:


Exploring Psychiatric Trainees’ Experiences of Working with Refugees Across Europe: A Qualitative Study Using Online Semi-Structured Interviews
This paper aims to explore how psychiatric trainees across Europe experience and perceive their preparedness and challenges when providing mental health care to refugee patients, by using online semi-structured interviews to perform a qualitative analysis.

Cultural  psychopharmacology: a scoping review
Cultural psychiatry examines the variations in diagnosis and treatment of mental health problems across various cultures, being increasingly relevant in our globalized world. More recently, the interaction between cultural and biological factors influencing mental health has gained more attention. This scoping review aims to map the evidence concerning cultural psychopharmacology and culture sensitive prescribing.
