Background

The Local Organizing Committee of the 23th EFPT Porto Forum (supported by the Portuguese National Trainees Associations: APIP and ANIPIA) would like to give a donation of 10.000€ to encourage psychiatric trainees to conduct research in the upcoming years. This donation arises from a legacy of combined work in 2015, and therefore this prize stands as EFPT Porto Research Award, targeting to be an annual prize for the next 10 years.
The aims of this award are to encourage psychiatric trainees to conduct research and contribute to the engagement of psychiatry trainees in the EFPT.

Who can apply?

Applicants to the EFPT Porto Research Award should be: psychiatric trainees (i.e. junior doctors training in psychiatry), working and developing research projects in WHO Europe Zone countries.

The presentations and publications from the research must be in English language. Applicants must ensure that appropriate ethical approval is in place wherever research is carried out.

How to apply?

Applicants should apply by sending an email to: portoresearchaward@efpt.eu with the following documents attached:

  • relevant presentations (poster or publications) in English of the submitted research project
  • short CV
  • motivation letter, indicating why the candidate is applying for the award
  • letter of support (i.e. declaration of proof by a senior researcher)

These documents should be submitted as PDF files and should not exceed two A4 pages per document.

When to apply?

Applications will be collected until 10th April 2019 . Notifications of the evaluation of applications shall be done in May.

Which areas of research can be covered?

The areas of research considered for this fellowship are the following: Adult Psychiatry, Child Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry and Social Psychiatry. Preclinical, clinical or field researches, of qualitative and quantitative projects are eligible for application. Individual or group studies can apply, the applicant should be the principal (or co-principal) investigator in the project.

How will applications be selected?

The Jury will referee applications according established criteria, based on the quality of the research work done, the extent to which the work shows the potential impact of the project, the trainees’ involvement with the project (eg. Principal investigator or first author) and intrinsic merit of the applicant.

The Jury will award marks for each category. The award will be given to the application that achieves the highest score and is considered to be of a high standard. An award may not be made if the panel considers that applications are not of a sufficiently high standard.

Winners

The winner of the EFPT Porto Research Award will receive 1.000€. A brief summary and photo linked with the project should be advertised on the EFPT website, in the EFPT Newsletter, and presented at the EFPT Forum in an appropriate format. The winner should acknowledge EFPT in any media coverage or publication arising from the work after the award is given.
