Amiens is the biggest town of the region Picardie. This region is located above Paris and Normandie, near the sea. Only one hour train far from Paris, so easy to go to visit Paris even during the day. Amiens is well-known for its beautiful gothic cathedral, one of the biggest in the world (Unesco patrimony), its lovely quartier Saint Leu (photo) with canals, little houses, bars with lively student atmosphere and its «hortillonages» (little gardens in the middle of Somme’s canals). Amiens is also known as Jules Verne’s town and his house can be visited.
The region Picardie is also well-known thanks to the famous Baie de Somme, one of the 8 most beautiful bays in the world according to Unesco. And Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme, is a lovely medieval village in the bay, from where William the Conquerant went to Great Britain. The seaside is also really beautiful with different landscapes along it : sand beach with dunes, shingle beach, cliffs… Picardie was also the place of a lot of well-known battles of the First World War (Bataille de la Somme). Some museums and war cemetery are really interesting (Musée des Abris d’Albert). In the South of the region, near Paris, there are also beautiful castles to visit : le château de Chantilly, le château de Pierrefonds, le château de Rambures.
