About us:

FYP is part of the Danish Psychiatric Association (DPS) and the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Society in Denmark (BUP-DK).

DPS and BUP-DK are the scientific societies for adult and child & adolescent psychiatrists, respectively, aiming to promote various professional interests within their specialties. FYP remains connected to both adult and child & adolescent psychiatry. The FYP board consists of nine members, all in training within either adult or child & adolescent psychiatry. The board is elected at the annual general assembly, which takes place during the FYP seminar held in October.

FYP works to improve education and enhance job satisfaction among junior psychiatrists. We aim to foster interest in the specialties and thereby support recruitment. FYP is represented in various bodies and committees, keeping us closely attuned to developments and serving as a voice for junior doctors in shaping the future of psychiatry. This makes FYP highly relevant for junior doctors.

Membership:

Trainees and early career specialists, who are members of DPS or BUP-DK will be automatically granted membership in FYP.

Brief report about training in Denmark:

As of the end of 2024, Denmark offers 39 medical specialties, including General Adult Psychiatry (GAP) and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP), which are two distinct and independent specialties, each requiring 5 years of training. The specialization process for both includes two phases: one year of “introduktion” (introduction) and four years of “hoveduddannelse” (main training). The training is competence-based, with no written or multiple-choice examinations.

In addition to acquiring the required competencies, trainees must complete specific courses, including those focused on their specialty, therapy, research, and the Organization and Leadership of the Healthcare System. Supervised therapy training is also mandatory. Trainees are expected to participate in research training, although there is no requirement for publication.
