New Board leading towards the future – and Bristol

Dear friends and colleagues,

It was a great honour to take over as the EFPT President at the end of an amazing Forum on the banks of the Bosphorus in Istanbul. A new Board was elected at the Annual General Assembly, which reflects the wide diversity of our organisation. Ekin Sönmez from Turkey, who has so skilful and energetically guided EFPT as its President over the last year, will continue in the Board as the Past President. Zetti Azvee from Ireland will also continue as the Treasurer, ensuring the financial sustainability of EFPT. Teresa Gomez Alemany from Spain was re-elected as the CAP Secretary and will continue to represent and support trainees in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. We are very pleased to welcome three new members to the Board this year. Pavel Trancik from Czech Republic was chosen as the President Elect and will bring the Forum to his home country in 2019. David De Freitas Pereira from Belgium is our new IT Secretary and plans to rejuvenate the website in the coming year to give us a fresh, modern image. Finally, Anne Nobels, also from Belgium will take over as the Secretary General, building on her work over the past year creating links with other international organisations. The Board looks forward to delivering the Annual Action Plan’s three objectives, to empower trainees through a strong EFPT, support an international network of trainees and to engage with innovation and influence opinion.

I am very much looking forward to welcoming you all to the beautiful city of Bristol in the UK for the 26th EFPT Forum. This will take place between the 21st and 25th of July 2018 and has the theme ‘Thinking differently about mind and brain’. It will include visits to local attractions, hospital visits, a world class scientific day on neuroscience and of course ‘International Night’!

Best wishes,

Howard
EFPT President 2017-2018
