ABOUT SOUTH LONDON AND MAUDSLEY NHS FOUNDATION TRUST

SLAM serves a local population of 1.3 million people in south London and is the home of multiple specialist and national services for adults across the UK and beyond. There are very few organisations in the world that have such wide-ranging capabilities working with mental illness.

Each year, SLAM provides inpatient care for over 5,000 people and treats more than 40,000 patients in the community in Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Croydon.

SLAM includes three psychiatric hospitals – Bethlem Royal Hospital, Lambeth Hospital and the Maudsley Hospital and the Ladywell Unit based at University Hospital Lewisham. It has 268 community, inpatient and outpatient services including 52 inpatient wards.

SLAM is known for strong research culture and history and is one of the institutions that make up King’s Health Partners, an academic health science centre. SLAM has within it a biomedical research centre – NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre – hosted jointly with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London with the aim of translating scientific developments into new ways of screening, detecting, treating and preventing mental illness.

PLACEMENTS

The placement programme aims to be flexible and accommodate placements within a wide variety of specialities (including but not limited to general adult, older adult, CAMHs) and national specialist centres – however this is dependent on the requirements of the candidate and subject to approval from the specific placement.

We will take the preferences of the individual into account regarding speciality and location. However, we cannot guarantee specific placements.

There may be an opportunity to join Junior doctor teaching held at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN) on Wednesdays.
