Description of the programme
Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Psychiatry was established at 1964. We are a tertiary medical center with high experience in clinical work and education. There are currently 15 faculty and 20 residents in our Department. We have a busy outpatient clinic and a general psychiatry ward covering the management of all major mental disorders. Almost all cases are referrals; comprising mostly complex, comorbid, treatment-resistant patients. In addition to the pharmacological and psychoterapeutic treatment, our routine clinical services include neuromodulation including ECT and rTMS as well as surgical implantation of addiction drugs. The country’s official language is Turkish, therefore patient exams are held in Turkish however all Faculty are fluent in English and will be happy to supervise non-Turkish speaking visitors.
Visiting doctors will be encouraged to spend time in a wealth of clinical areas. We offer a program that mimics our residents’ life. You will have the opportunity to do a four week observership, each week spending at a different clinic, including the Intervention Center, where you will observe ECT, rTMS and implant procedures; a week at the General Psychiatry Ward; a week with the consultation group where you will experience hospital psychiatry in a large referral center with more than a thousand beds; and a week which you can choose from our outpatient clinic, forensic psychiatry or geriatric psychiatry clinics. The trainee will be hosted by a local trainee and supervised by a faculty in each rotation. Trainee will be able to attend resident lectures, grand rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, journal clubs and seminars which are held weekly. The visitor will have the opportunity to actively participate in the sessions.
