The clinic is Turkey’s largest and oldest-established mental institute with approximately 1400 bed capacity (400 female, 500 male, 400 forensic, 130 alcohol and substance addiction) and 4000 outpatient admissions monthly. This tertiary research institute affiliated with national ministry of health, receive a substantial portion of referrals from all over the country making the institute handling the most complex and compelling patient profile. The inpatient units serve as closed wards where suicidal/homicidal patients are under intense care. Mostly encountered diagnoses are in psychotic spectrum and mood disorders. Visiting trainees have the opportunity to follow up numerous cases to receive electroconvulsive treatment.
Trainees may also engage in teaching activities. There are institutional seminars held on weekly basis for trainees and monthly for all mental health care professionals, occasionally via English speaking lecturers. The education supervisors in each unit carry out a regular training program for trainees. The departments also hold regular meetings for conducting clinical researches, presenting recently published articles and seminars on several up-to-date topics. The timetable will be set up with local coordinators after consulting to the supervisors of the units prior to the start of the exchange.

Language: Turkish may be useful to communicate during psychiatric interviews. Most of the trainees and the other staff can speak English, therefore fluent English is required.
