The 2016 theme for the International Youth Day organized by UNESCO is “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production”. As the director of UNESCO, Irina Bekova, reported, “youth is not only the future but also the present”; therefore efforts should be made in order to promote welfare, combate poverty and minimize differences in opportunities between them. Regarding the epidemiology of mental disorders in children and adolescence, approximately one fourth of youth across the world experience a mental disorder, and about one third will develope one across their lifetimes. Nevertheless, fewer than half of youth with current mental disorders recieve mental health speciality treatment. We, as psychiatry trainees should bear this in mind in order to fight towards the equality in health resources regardless ethnicity, citizenship, socioeconomic level or religion.
I encourage you to disclose the International Youth Day in your community and support their initiatives to shape today, the future of our society.
